About Basarabia

The story of Magazin Basarabia did not begin with a business plan, but with longing.

More than 10 years ago, Angela and Lilian moved from Chișinău to Bucharest. It was a big step, filled with excitement, but also with nostalgia. Missing home is not only about people and places, it is also about tastes. The chocolate of childhood, the biscuits you knew by heart, the wine opened at family gatherings, the small products that hold memories. All of these were missing.

They were looking for a place where they could find them again. And because they couldn’t find it, they decided to create it.

This is how Magazin Basarabia was born: out of longing, out of love for tradition, and out of a sincere desire to bring the authentic tastes of Basarabia closer to people.

In 2015, the first physical store opened in Bucharest. Small, modest, with shelves full of sweets and wines. Nothing sophisticated, just products chosen with care and soul. What followed was a beautiful surprise: people came in, tasted, and came back. They shared stories, smiled, and recommended us to others. And this gave Angela and Lilian the courage to move forward.

Little by little, the product range grew. So did the dream. Other locations followed, in Brașov and Ilfov, and today Magazin Basarabia has three physical stores, each with the same attention to detail and the same welcoming atmosphere.

And recently, out of the desire to reach people all across the country, the online store was born as well. So that the tastes of Basarabia can reach anywhere, straight to your doorstep.

Perhaps the most beautiful part of this story is the people. The customers who come back, who stop to chat, who ask for a recommendation or simply drop by to say “hello”.

“My favorite part of the day is interacting with the customers,” says Angela. “I love helping them choose, talking with them. There are ladies who come very often, and we truly get to know each other. It’s a special connection that makes my day brighter.”

Magazin Basarabia is about flavors, but above all, about people. About longing, belonging, and the joy of sharing something authentic.
